pliers to an echo, 2023

Cotton yarn, red dye, steel wire

Arm-knitting is used as a metaphor to explore the community impact of political radicalization, where scale, form, and symbols serve as representations of power. The artist traced entry points into radicalization through online and local communities that discussed the occult, new-age spirituality, and natural living, noticing a common thread of decentralized or altered history. Nicole Mary's large-scale installations are physical manifestations of this manipulation; responding to questions about how community plays a role in radicalization and deradicalization.

Solo show at artsPlace Canmore May 2023.
